An incredible £60 billion was spent on clothes and shoes in the UK last year.
The vast majority of the clothes that are bought are made from cotton, which with the way it’s intensively farmed isn’t exactly one of the friendliest of crops on the planet. GMO (genetically modified) seeds with agre, fertilizers, pesticides.
When sourcing new brands and products to feature on Baobab Avenue we look out for more sustainable material choices such as organic and sustainably sourced cotton, tencel (an amazing fabric made from trees!), linen, and bamboo.
Some of these materials come with trustworthy certifications such as GOTS (Global Organics Textile Standard) which you’ll often see on organic cotton products, and OEKO-TEX which ensures that the dyes and prints chemicals used aren’t harmful to the environment.
