I quit fast fashion and buying new because the fashion and textile industry is now one of the top global polluters, contributing more greenhouse gas emissions annually than aviation and maritime industries combined.

She added, "The litany of environmental impact doesn’t end there. We throw billions of tonnes of clothing away annually which ends up in landfill, washing synthetic fabrics contributes to as much as 30% of micro plastic pollution in our oceans and producing textiles uses up precious water resources and pollutes the environment with toxic chemicals and dyes.

"Then there’s the appalling working conditions under which most of these garments are made in developing countries to which most of the companies profiting from them still turn a blind eye.

"I can no longer support a major global polluter to indulge a superfluous love of fashion when I know that my purchases contribute directly to harmful impacts globally."
